Darren Butler – more runs for North Devon against Hatherleigh, but this time on the losing side<br>credit: Fiona Tyson

HATHERLEIGH did not have to wait long to take revenge on North Devon CC for their Saturday afternoon mauling in the Tolchards DCL.

Barely 25 hours after North Devon’s Jack Moore flogged the Hatherleigh bowling for 166 in a 108-run win, the boot was on the other foot.

Hatherleigh turned the tables on North Devon in their Instow backyard to go top of the table in Division One of the North Devon League.

Hatherleigh must have been worried as North Devon openers Darren Butler (64), and Harry Nicholl (69) put on 134 in double quick time.

Once Butler and Nicholl fell to veteran Richard Tidball and Paul Heard, only James Tyson (26) and Moore (43no) attained double figures as North Devon were bowled out for 242 with Rob Cockwill (4-41) and Kagiso Rapulana (3-23) largely responsible.

Hatherleigh’s Ryan Davies gave Moore a taste of his own medicine by hitting a rapid 93 during an opening partnership of 169 with Eddie Jones (51). Rapaluna (33no) and Jay Porter (21no) saw Hatherleigh home with more than five overs in hand.

Newton Tracey bowled-out former leaders Westleigh for 105 inside 24 overs at the Lawn.

Peter Blyth (3-6) Dominic Robson (3-17) and Rob Gear (3-46) put the Westleigh batting to the sword. Peter Bowes (38) and Selwyn Fisher (34) were Westleigh’s only significant scorers.

Newton lost two quick wickets, which was as good as it got for the visitors, as Oliver Symons (51no) and Kieran Soper (42no) knocked-off the remainder with ease

Bratton Fleming were asked to bat first at Heathcoat and reached 151 for eight in their 40 overs. Daniel Godfrey (32) was the only batter to score more than 20.

Malcolm Cloete (3-9 off 8) was the pick of the Heathcoat bowlers in terms of wickets taken and economy.

Nathan White (47) and Ben Fitzherbert (45no) eventually saw Heathcoat home with five wickets in hand and eight overs to go despite the best efforts of James Tapp (3-20) to slow the chase.

Victoria Park lost their 100 per cent record in Division three when Holsworthy defeated them by two runs in a thrilling finish,

Holsworthy batted first and scored 164 for six. Jon Tidball (85) and Ryan Walter (45) top scored for Holsworthy. Dave Branch took four wickets for the Park, who were all out for 162 in the 36th over when their last man was run out at the non-striker's end.

“A very unfortunate way to lose,” observed Walter.

Marc Bettis has been credited with a top score of 50 for Victoria Park.

The Kelseymen defeated Barnstaple & Pilton by eight runs at Braunton in Pool B of the league cup.

Kelseymen mustered 198 for nine in their 40 overs thanks to an unbeaten 54 from Mark Thomas, plus 40 from skipper Andy Norman. Teenager Freddie Norton took four for 27 for B&P.

The Nortons – dad Robin (30) and lad Tim (38) – had help from Matt Newton (40) during the chase.

Losing five wickets getting from 154 for three to 165 for eight damaged B&P’s prospects and after Freddie North went for 16 it was downhill to 190 all out,

Norman capped a fine all round performance with bowling figures of four for 33

Nomansland conceded their Pool D game at Ilfracombe due to team-raising problems.
