THOVERTON consigned Seaton to another defeat after skittling them out for 82.

These are tough times for Seaton, who were hard hit by player movements and retirements during the close season and have now lost nine in a row in the A Division.

Dan Robbins (3-15) and George Daldorph (2-10) got half the Seaton side out between them. The other five wickets fell to five different bowlers.

David Hooper, Thorverton’s Guernsey international, bowled nine overs at a cost of just 12 runs as Seaton laboured for runs.

Mark Wheeler (18) had the best of a sorry set of Seaton scores.

Thorverton needed 21.1 overs to polish off the target. The man out was Paul Fielder for 23.

Ali Chilcott (44no) and Tom Diamond (5) concluded the chase. Chilcott is fast approaching 300 runs in the league season and is averaging 42.14.

“I think Alistair Chilcott is having his best-ever season for the club and I can't wait to see it continue,” said Jake Choules, the Thorverton captain.

Reflecting on the game, Choules said: “We bowled really well, but Seaton batted a bit strangely and did not seem to try to attack us at all.

“We fielded and caught well then put in a professional chase to finish it off.”

Choules said the game could not have been played, never mind won so comprehensively, without the work of the ground team.

“Their efforts to get the game on were noteworthy,” said Choules.

“The ground team worked really hard getting any water off the square for hours before the game so a ‘thank-you’ to them.”

Going into the second half of the season this Saturday, Thorverton are just below halfway in a table that could barely be closer.

Only 24 points separate Budleigh (127) in second place from Kilmington (103), who are second from bottom. Thorverton are on 109.
