JAMES Starkey shone with bat and ball for Westleigh in their five-wicket win over Heathcoat in the North Devon League.

Heathcoat’s Ed Butler top scored with 56, as the Tiverton outfit scored 217 for the loss of five wickets at Westleigh in the Division One meeting. His 56 included 11 fours. Will Blowers (40), and Fred Walker (33no) chipped in. 

Starkey was the pick of the Westleigh bowling with three for 40 from his eight overs.

Starkey opened the batting and guided Westleigh to victory. His 73 not out contained seven fours and four sixes. 

Starkey had help from James Ashton (30no), with whom he shared an unbroken stand of 66.

Westleigh’s victory kept the pressure on joint leaders North Devon, who entertained Belstone a couple of miles away at Instow.

Jack Moore is in his second year captaining the North Devon CC NDL side and is still unbeaten. He led from the front in their 153-run victory over the Foxes with 119 not out. 

Moore shared a second-wicket stand of 150 with Isaac Windley (92) and 185 unbroken for the third wicket with James Tyson (111no) in a team total of up 339 for two. Tyson’s 111 came off 52 balls and contained 82 runs in boundaries.

Belstone valiantly struggled to 186 in reply. James Ewen (49) and Daniel Fogerty (34no) top scored for Belstone. Jack Popham, bowling his Sunday off-spin for North Devon, took four for 16

Bideford had a walkover in Division Two as Exford were unable to raise a side.

Newton Tracey defeated Holsworthy by three wickets at Stanhope Park in a League Cup game.

Holsworthy totalled 169 with Jack Greening (45), and Liam Brend (42) top scoring. Simon Gear (3-30) was the pick of the bowlers. 

Newton got the runs with three wickets in hand. Kieran Soper (38) and Peter Blyth (33) led a team effort as Newton won with five overs to spare.
