THREE wickets each for Ben Cowling and Rob Clarke put Chudleigh on course for a 43-run win over visiting Bridestowe.

The B Division new boys did well to limit Chudleigh to 180 for nine after 45 overs.

Opener Paul Windsor-Horne made a limpet-like 27 off 97 balls at the top of the Chudleigh order and put up 86 for the third wicket with Adam Kent (61).

After Kent was fourth out he only score of note was Rob Clarke’s 24 not out, although a generous sprinkling of wides helped the cause.

There were two wickets each for Bridestowe bowlers Ed Crichton and Callum Mallett and three for Tallan Burns.

Bridestowe’s anchorman was opener Jack Hatton, whose patient 61 could have been the platform for victory had anyone stayed with him more than a few overs. It did not happen.

Cowling (3-23) and Clarke (3-22) chipped away at the batting at the other end from Hatton, who was eventually eighth out on 122. It was all over soon afterwards.

Dan Fogerty, the Bridestowe captain, was unable to hide his disappointment at the result.

“We were poor all-round – period – and second best in every aspect,” said Fogerty.

“We did not create any partnerships when we batted and consistently losing wickets definitely did not help us.”

Will Heather, the Chudleigh captain, said: “It was a very satisfying result and a real team effort all round.

“After being put in to bat we dug in on a pitch that was damp from a lot of rain throughout the week.

“Paul Windsor-Horne anchored the first half of the innings and Adam Kent looked class for his 61.

“We fielded well and stuck to our bowling plans. I could not have asked for anything more from the boys this week.”

IPPLEPEN did not hang about on the way to defeating Dartington & Totnes by eight wickets.

Skipper Ashley Harvey bagged four wickets (4-30) and Tom Durman (3-18) had three more as D&T were hustled out for 93.

David Harvey top scored with 35 for D&T, opener Justin Osborne was seventh our on 73 and once 19 extras are factored in there was little of nothing from the rest.

Tom Durman’s 10-ball first over helped boost the score. But with 13 wickets in three games so far no one at Ipplepen was too worried about one wayward over.

Pens took 28.2 overs to skittle D&T and just 18.3 overs to complete a 20-point win.

Gareth Penrice (51no) was joined by Neil Hancock (34no) after a double strike by D&T left-armer Dinesh Raheja (2-17) and put on 81 unbroken to win it.

Ipplepen are played three and won them all at the top of the B Division table. D&T are on the bottom without a win so far.

Simon Tapley, the Ipplepen team manager, said with Bovey Tracey 2nd XI next on the fixture card there is no room for complacency.

“Sixty from 60 sounds great, but still much to improve on and we look forward to an incredibly strong Bovey side visiting on Saturday,” said Tapley.
