BOVEY Tracey sent Tavistock sliding to a 93-run defeat on a day when their bowlers were firing on all cylinders.

The Moorlanders did well to limit Bovey to 239 for seven in a 45-over game as 15 overs out they were heading towards 270-plus.

Ed Foreman made a top-score of 96 for Bovey and should have completed a maiden B Division century. With six overs to go the bearded batter tried to slap Tavvy seamer Charlie Barriball through cover, but only succeeded in top edging a looping catch to keeper Dave Manning.

Also among the runs for Bovey were Chris Penner (20), Sam Harvey, who made 26 in a stand of 86 with Foreman and Archie Christophers (34).

Dom Snyman (0-26) and Matt Puttock (1-21) were Tavistock’s least expensive bowlers. Acting captain Barriball (2-54) was the only one to take more than one wicket.Tavistock batsman Dave Manning plays it straight on the way to making 37 in his side's 93-run defeat at Bovey Tracey

Tavistock reached 89 for two in reply, then lost opener Billy Barriball for a carefully crafted 52 off 75 balls.

Left-hander Dave Manning had been in a while by then and he batted through for an unbeaten 37 at one end while wickets fell at the other.

Two wickets went on 115 and the last four tumbled for just one run added as Tavistock plunged from 145 for six to 146 all out.

Arren de Young (3-28) did most of the damage then paceman Ben Steer returned for a second spell to knock over tail enders Ryan Burke and James McGahey finish with four for 31.

Ben Green, the Bovey captain, said it was just the sort of performance the team needed ahead of this Saturday’s top-of-the-table tussle with Ipplepen.

“It was a convincing win and good to see us bowl well and improve on the previous game,” said Green.

“Ben Steer, Chris Yabsley and Arren de Young bowled a good line and length and did not give anything away.

“We have a big game ahead of us at Ipplepen and will need to perform as we did against Tavistock.”

Charlie Barriball, who was deputising for skipper Shaun Daymond, felt Tavistock partly contributed to their own misfortunes.

“We made a promising start with the ball and were a bit unlucky that a few edges and mistimed shots did not find fielders,” said Barriball.

“Having said that we dropped a lot of chances and Foreman was dropped about three times before reaching 30.

“Matt Puttock and Will Scott-Munden did extremely well to restrict Bovey towards the end.”

Barriball said the chase started ‘promisingly’ but added: “We just couldn't find a partner for Billy or Dave and gave wickets away too cheaply.”
