Plymouth are u13 Lady Taverners Devon Softball Champions.

Plymouth have followed on from the previous u11 successes by winning the u13 competition in a winner takes all game at Plymouth against Paignton.

The weather was lovely and the girls had a super morning, Jemima Johnson a current u15 Devon County Player kindly offered to umpire. Her attendance at the recent Western Storm Young Champions Course, where she has learned about scoring and umpiring was a great help!

Scoring at the recent course

Plymouth won the toss and opted to field, Paignton got off to a great start with Amber Varney top scoring for the day with 26. However some tight bowling and excellent fielding, led to wickets and kept the score down. Imogen Prickett, Olivia Irish and Megan Hayward all took two wickets each and Megan also took three catches.
With Plymouth chasing a score of 45 the first pair made a dent with Kat Frost top scoring for Plymouth with 18. The runs kept coming for Plymouth with Rosie Johnson adding a strong 14 later in the innings. Nancy Gilpin bowled well for Paignton taking two wickets, but Paignton couldn’t stop the runs flowing and Plymouth finished as champions.
It was lovely to see both teams having a fantastic time and the game was played in a really good spirit.
This win means Plymouth hold both the hardball and softball trophies for 2021 and with no player older than 12 can try to retain their titles next year.
