NatWest U19 Club T20 Competition
With the cricket season in full swing, it is now time to look forward to the NatWest Under 19 Club T20 competition. This competition has not been held in Devon before but has been a huge success in other counties. It attempts to replicate the NatWest T20 Blast by giving teenagers the opportunity to wear coloured kit, play alongside music, and entertain a large crowd.
11 cricket clubs from Devon will receive ‘Blast Points’ for creating a lively and exciting atmosphere. It is expected that these cricket clubs will open the bars, stoke up the BBQs, and create an entertaining and exhilarating atmosphere.
The primary aim of the competition is to retain young players at cricket clubs and encourage them to take control of their club for a few matches. By giving the players ownership, they have the freedom to make cricket exciting for people their age and for everybody else watching.
This year, Devon has three district leagues; South, East and West. Each team will compete against the other teams within their district. The team that finishes top in their respective league will progress to a round-robin finals day in August. More details to follow in future newsletters.
For now though, the upcoming district league fixtures are listed below. Most fixtures take place within July and can be found on playcricket.com or in future newsletters.
30th May: Sidmouth vs Ottery St Mary 13.30pm
30th May: Sidmouth vs Exeter 17.00pm
22nd June: Lewdown vs Yelverton 18.00pm
26th June: Lewdown vs Ivybridge 11.00am
26th June: Lewdown vs Cornwood 14.30pm
Clubs would really appreciate your support. There is likely to be a chance to win prizes in raffles, eat some delicious burgers and hot dogs and experience a great standard of cricket. It really is a competition like no other and is a great way to experience T20 cricket, for a fraction of the usual price.
