Match report Wales Under 15 girls vs Devon Under 15 girls, Cardiff Cricket Club

On Wednesday 21st July Devon U15 girls travelled to Cardiff Cricket Club to take on Wales U15 girls in a 40 over match. Devon won the toss and chose to bat first. Darcy and Bea opened the batting putting on 35 before the first wicket fell (Bea 14).

 

 Darcy Thomas scored an important 34 runs before becoming the third wicket for Wales. Lucie and Erin put on a crucial 5th wicket partnership of 61 runs leaving Devon 144/5 after Erin got bowled for 28. Lucie’s wicket followed shortly after scoring a valuable 30 runs.

 

Imogen batted out the rest of the overs securing herself 20no. Devon ended their innings on 191/9, leaving Wales needing 192 to win. (Batting- Darcy- 34, Lucie-30, Erin- 28) (Wales bowling- Ela (6-0-30-3), Cerys (6-2-5-1), Eve (3-0-9-1) 

Devon took to the field in the second innings. The pressure was straight on Wales when Erin took an early wicket leaving Wales 1/1. Strong opening bowling from Erin and Imogen left Wales 13/1 off the first 8 overs.

Wales brought it back with a strong 89 run partnership before Lucie managed break the partnership getting out Niamh who scored a strong 46 runs. At the halfway marks Wales were right on the run rate with 96/2 keeping it a tight match. Lucie came through claiming her 2nd wicket with the help of a good catch from Millie. 

Darcy claimed the 4th wicket leaving Wales 136/4. This was soon followed by a brilliant over from Millie who took two wickets in a row the first being caught by Abbie and the second being bowled. This left Wales 146/6. The pressure building created the opportunity for Maddie to run out one of the Wales batters.

 

To keep the momentum going Imogen came back on to bowl and took the 8th wicket for Devon. With only two wickets remaining the tension was high, but Erin came through and secured the 9th wicket. Although the match was not secured yet as only 14 runs were required by Wales. Abbie came on to bowl in the next over and after being hit for four bringing the runs required down to 10, she took a wicket the next ball securing Devon a 10-run victory.
