A damp and soggy morning at Chagford!

The morning dawned for the second under 11 girls' festival ay Chagford CC and it was quite a different view in the skies. Clouds prevailed, but the forecast was for it to remain dry so teams from Chagford, Hatherleigh, Paignton, Bovey Tracey and Teignmouth and Shaldon made their way to the ground. For Hatherleigh and Teignmouth and Shaldon, this was the first time they had fielded a girls team, so it was a great occasion for them.

With five teams entered it was going to be a busy morning with all teams playing at least 3 games. We were lucky enough again to have several of our Western Storm Young leaders at the event and they were running batting, bowling and fielding activities for the team not playing.

Everyone was soon busy playing and it was a joy to see so much cricket being played by so many young girls. Even the miserable turn in the weather did not dampen the spirits of the girls and they continued to play through the continuous drizzly weather. I'm not sure the adult spectators were as spirited though!

As the morning progressed the cricket became more confident and the spectators more vocal. there was a lovely atmosphere around the ground as everyone enjoyed the games. A gallery of pictures of the teams is available here.

Overall, we have now had 8 teams across the county take part in the festival. The next festival is in Braunton CC on the 4th July and then the last on the 11th July in Budleigh Salterton. If you would like to enter, then click here or contact Ann-Marie Presswell
