SONNY Baker, Ned Leonard and Jamie Baird are both in Somerset’s 13-man squad for the three-day friendly against Worcester starting tomorrow (Monday).

Sonny BakerTorquay fast bowler Baker signed an Academy contract with Somerset late last year having been on the county’s radar since he played in the Bunbury Festival at Millfield School in 2018.

Baker, who was 18 last month, went through the Devon youth ranks and by the age of 13 was playing men’s cricket in the Tolchards Devon League for Torquay.

Torquay pitched Baker into their first team not long after his 15th birthday in 2018 and he has been a regular pick ever since.

Baird, a keeper batsman, has played for Devon intermittently since 2019 as part of the partnership agreement with Somerset.

Leonard, another Somerset player dual-registered with Devon, is also in the party for the game.

With Tom Lammonby (Exeter) and Lewis Gregory (Plympton) both in the 13, there is a strong Devon flavour to the Somerset squad.

Tom Abell, the Somerset captain, said he was looking forward to seeing Baker and Baird in action at close quarters.

“They have been brilliant around the group through pre-season, so it’s an exciting opportunity for those guys,” said Abell.
