DARTINGTON & Totnes carried too much firepower for Brixham when the two sides met at Foxhole in South Two.

Darts’ Jono Colegate went in at 59 for two and was still there at the end on 93 not out in a 45-over total of 247 for five. Along the way there were stands of 79 with Alex Winch (40), 40 with Chris Cook (19) and 68 with Alex Hartridge (44).

Wickets were hard to come by for Brixham, although Bradley McKee, Matt Parsons and Tom Stephenson all kept the runs down.

Brixham lost by exactly 100 runs – they were all out for 147 in the 39thover – but encouraged skipper Tom Hopper with a battling middle-order display.

Hopper (23), Parsons (16) and Lee Upham (21) all put in lengthy shifts that made D&T work for their wickets.

Chris Cook (3-24) and Nick Dennis (3-19) were the main D&T wicket takers, aided and abetted by Hartridge and Tyler Walton with two each.

For Brixham skipper Hopper there were plus points despite the outcome.

“Brad McKee and Tom Stephenson bowled well to start with on what was a really tough pitch for the batters,” said Hopper.

“We might have been slightly poor in the field, but that's something we have to work on if we are to win games of cricket.

“The run chase never really got going as we lost wickets too regularly due to some good bowling by Totnes and some poor shot selection from our guys.

“There were still plenty of positives to take out of the game.”

KAM Singh had his best afternoon with the ball for a decade in Chudleigh’s 43-run win over Ipplepen.

Seamer Singh took five Ipplepen wickets for 28 runs as Chudleigh dismissed the visitors for 141 chasing a target of 184.

It was the new recruit’s best bowling performance since taking six for 39 armed with the new ball when he opened the bowling for Topsham against Hemyock in 2010.

Chudleigh got to 183 all out in fits and stars with Mark Solway top scoring on 38 and Saqib Hasan making 27 going in at number nine. An eighth-wicket partnership of 32 between the pair proved crucial to the result.

Ashley Harvey (3-27) edged Ben Forsey (2-28) and Marcus Green (2-35) in the bowling stats for Ipplepen.

Ipplepen tumbled to nine for four in reply – three wickets for Singh – but were partially rescued by Neil Hancock with a studious 61.

Hancock and Forsey (36) got the score up to 121 for five, at which point Hasan (3-22) removed the former Devon cricket captain.

The last five wickets went for just 20 runs scored once Hancock was dismissed.

It was Chudleigh’s first league win of the season and the lift they wanted after losing to Dartington & Totnes.

After last week's loss I was happy to bounce back straight away,” said skipper Matt Heather.

“I did think we posted a target about 30-40 runs short on a good pitch and still have a lot of work to do on our batting. As a team we aren't fully firing yet.

“I can't fault the bowling. Kam Singh bowled really well to get his first five-for with the club, and was backed up by the rest of the bowlers.

“Our fielding let us down, so we will be working hard to put that right before we play Dartington & Totnes at our place.”
