WEST FOUR

THE Gaylard brothers were among the runs for Plymouth CS&R in their victory over Ivybridge.

Opener Rob stayed calm while two wickets fell early on at the opposite end to make a top score of 55 in Civil’s total of 208 for seven.

Skipper Brian Gaylard joined his brother with the score on 48 for four and made exactly 50 in a stand of 106 for the fifth wicket.

With both Gaylards out of the way Kolur Ayyappa with 30 not out off 13 balls kept the board ticking over.

Ivybridge were held to 181 for eight in reply, which meant a loss by 27 runs.

Plenty of batters got in and got settled, notably Andy Johnson (35) and Tom Bendall (31), but none went on to make a score to hang a run chase on.

Matt Trevorrow (0-18) and Matt Ball (1-29) kept it tight with the ball for Civil; Dan Winsor (3-32) was the leading wicket taker.

EAST FIVE

ALPHINGTON & Countess Wear cruised to a six-wicket win over Topsham St James with more than nine of their 40 overs to spare.

St James recovered from 22 for three and 85 for six to make 140 all out, thanks largely to the efforts of Matt Garner (40) and Neil Shillabeer (25).

Oli Byles (2-32) did the early damage with the ball, Jack Mills and Al Davey got into the middle order with two wickets each and Mark Halse (3-17) picked off the stragglers.

The Alphas lost opener Matt Taylor and new signing Andy Fairbairn, the former Bovey Tracey batsman and captain in successive balls to Mark Phillips early in the chase, which was otherwise unremarkable.

Skipper James Bogue (54no), Mills (31) and Sam Plumb (28no) took A&CW the rest of the way.

With the 2nd XI also victorious – they beat Bradninch 2nd XI it was a good day for the newly combined club.

“There was a great atmosphere on and off the pitch and nice to welcome Andy Fairbairn to the club,” said Bogue.

“Definitely still rusty and with plenty to sharpen up, but we chased sensibly against a good Topsham side.

“We are developing a really balanced mix of experience and youth across the club and great to find some early momentum.”

JACK Tucker fired an unbeaten century to help Feniton to a 14-run win over Budleigh Salterton 2nd XI.

Feniton amassed 235 for five in 40 overs with Tucker unbeaten on 101. Marc Russell (36) and Dan Parcell (28) provided the early impetus.

Harry Parkin scored 65 of the first 106 runs on the board. Joe Marley (31) and Lee Russell (20) chipped in to a running total of 155 for six.

Chris Battin (21no) and skipper Dan Messon (26no) put on 46 unbroken in an unsuccessful attempt to catch up at the end.

EAST EAST THREE

HONITON went down by 32 runs when they made the short trip to Ottery St Mary 2nd X in East Three.

Anthony Dean (47) and George Mutter (35) took the total to 87 before Mutter became the third wicket to fall as Ottery stumbled after a bright start.Civil's Tom Bendall on the attack against Ivybridge II

Ottery limped to 129-8 when Ashok Prasad joined Jon Triner (20) and the pair added what was to prove a match-winning partnership of 33 for the ninth wicket in a total of 177 all out.

Rob Ingram was the star of the Honiton bowling effort with figures of 5-27 from nine overs.

Honiton wickets fell at regular intervals with only Kieran Conway (46)  providing much resistance The last wicket fell on 145.

The bulk of the wickets were taken by Max Moore (3-22), George Mutter (3-22) and Freddie Eul-Barker (2-21).

UPLYME & Lyme Regis batsman Tyler Wellman slammed a second successive Devon League unbeaten century as his team put hosts Axminster well and truly to the sword, beating the Axe men by a margin of 208 runs.

Uplyme skipper Steve Batey won the toss and opted to bat first and opened the inning himself.

However, with the score on 30 the skipper became the first wicket to fall, caught for 24 and, when fellow opener Charlie Moss (13) and number three bat Alfie Jaques (0), joined him in the pavilion, Uplyme had slipped to 44-3.

However, Wellman was joined at the crease by Joe Elsworth and the pair took the fight to the home bowlers adding 212 for the fourth wicket before Elsworth was run out when just three runs shy of a century.

Moments before, Wellman had chalked up another unbeaten ton to sit with his 100 not out seven days before.

Wellman finished not out 102, scored from 100 deliveries, hitting 16 fours.

Elsworth’s 97 came from 91 deliveries and he hit a dozen fours and two sixes as Uplyme closed on 256-4 after their 40 overs.

Robin Ellis was the home bowler to enjoy the best return with his figures being 2-28 from seven overs.

Axminster’s reply was hit by early wickets with half the side back in the pavilion with just 26 runs on the score board.

It did not get much better as the final five wickets could only muster another 22 runs as the Axe men were bowled out for 48 in one ball shy of 20 overs.

The only home batsman into double figures was number five, Dan Murane, with 11 and the ‘best of the rest’ was the contribution of seven from opener Andrew Guppy

The successful Uplyme bowlers were Steve Batey (2-5), Jibu Varghese (3-11), Sam Farrow (2-3), Tyler Wellman (1-3) and David Matthews (1-20).
