For services rendered: Nigel Mountford with his trophy

BOVEY Tracey’s Nigel Mountford was honoured for his services to the Tolchards Devon League at the competition’s annual meeting in Exeter.

Mountford has been the league’s logistics officer for the past four seasons and discipline director for a year longer. He also served a term as a league results secretary with responsibility for the E Division West.

The trophy was handed over to Mountford by Jim Mardell, the managing director of league sponsors Tolchards Drinks.

Paignton’s director of cricket Terry Farkins was dispatched to the meeting to collect the D Division West winners’ trophy on behalf of the second team.

South Devon 2nd XI captain Matt Kitto went along to the meeting to collect the G Division West championship trophy. His side won immediate promotion a year after being relegated into the G Division for the first time.

BOVEY Tracey have 12 months to find a new chairman after Nigel Mountford handed in his notice.

Long-serving Mountford, 66, has been chairman since 2003 when he took the chair from George Gribble.

Mountford has a number of voluntary posts in cricket, including being chief executive of Devon CCC as well as his roles with the Devon Cricket League.

Mountford announced his intention to stand down as chairman at Bovey Tracey’s annual meeting, which was held last Saturday night.

“By the time I stand down I will have been chairman for 18 years and that is long enough,” said Mountford.

“It is time for someone else with new ideas to take over and take Bovey forward.

“By giving the club a year’s notice I hope to have given members the time to consider options and make an informed decision on who takes over.”

The meeting also re-elected off-spinner Toby Codd as 1st XI captain for the third season.
