Harold Shaw - in the score box for Devon at Exmouth

DEVON’S cricket community will be saying fond farewells to scorer and administrator Harold Shaw at his funeral on Friday.

Shaw, who died earlier this month aged 90, had a 40-year involvement with Bovey Tracey CC as a colts organiser and 1st XI scorer.

For nearly 19 seasons Shaw was the Devon County Cricket Club scorer and recorded the stats at 261 matches in all competitions.

Another long-term cricket commitment was as a results secretary for the Devon Cricket League between 1979-1995.

Shaw’s service to league, club and county was honoured at various times in the last 25 years with life membership of all three organisations.

Shaw’s funeral will take place at Torquay Crematorium on Friday (August 23) at 2pm.

Barry Shaw, one of Harold’s four children, said there had been an unavoidable delay between his father’s death and the funeral.

“Dad was adamant his funeral should not clash with any cricket matches, so we had to find a free date,” said Barry.
