Flashback to 2012 and Jack Davey (left) enrolling Geoff Miller (right) in the David Shepherd Cricket Trust

A long-standing supporter of the David Shepherd Cricket Trust will be guest of honour at a fund-raising lunch on behalf of the charity in Exeter.

Geoff Miller, the former Derbyshire and England all-rounder, was enrolled as an honorary member of the charity way back in 2012.

Geoff Miller bowling for DerbyshireMiller was on a speaking assignment in Plymouth on behalf of the Lord’s Taverners cricket charity when he was approached by Shepherd Trust directors Jack Davey and the late Stuart Munday.

Miller left the speaking date as the newest member of the charity and was kitted out with the organisation’s tie.

Miller will be speaking at the DSCT’’s annual fund-raising luncheon in Exeter, which is being hosted at the Exeter Golf & Country Club on Friday, September 27. Vospers Motorhouse are the lunch sponsors

Miller had a long career in the game with county and country, which lasted from 1976-1990. He appeared in 34 Tests, and 25 one-day internationals for England.

He was involved in one of the most dramatic finishes to a Test match when he pocketed a looping rebound off fellow slipper Chris Tavaré to dismiss last man Jeff Thompson and seal victory by three runs in the Boxing Day Test of 1982.

Miller played in three Ashes series and toured Pakistan and New Zealand with England.

After four seasons playing Minor Counties cricket for Cheshire, which included a five-wicket haul against Devon at Bowdon in 1993, Miller became part of the England set-up. He was a selector from 2000-2008 and National Selector from 2008 until retirement in 2013.

Having had a career that extensive, Miller is bound to have plenty to talk about.
