DEVON under-15s kept their outside chance of winning ECB Championship Group 4B alive with a convincing win over Hampshire.

Devon opted to bat first at South Wiltshire CC on the outskirts of Salisbury and the decision paid dividends.

Opener and Cornwood CC batter Ciaran Gray hit 51 on a wicket that required patience to score on.

Archie Farkins (Paignton) showed plenty of patience with his 68 and skipper Jasper Presswell from Hatherleigh chipped in with a valuable 34 in Devon's total of 234 for eight from their 50 overs.

‘Bowl straight' was the request to the Devon bowlers after the tea break and that's just what they did.

Opening swing bowler Ethan Carlisle (Plymouth CC), followed the instructions and finished with three for 30.

Ever-reliable Paignton CC spinner Rory Medlock also bagged three wickets for 30 and Queens Park club-mate Farkins took two for 19 as the home side were skittled out for just 121 to give Devon a massive 113-run victory.

It’s tight at the top of the table where Oxfordshire (20pts), Devon (16pts) and Dorset (16pts) have two games to go.

Devon need to defeat winless Isle of Wight in their penultimate game to go into their final match against Oxfordshire with a chance of finishing top.

Devon 234-8 (C Gray 51, Farkins 68, Presswell J 34; J Organ 5-26), Hampshire 121 (J Organ 28, T Varney 26; R Medlock 3-30, E Carlisle 3-30, A Farkins 2-19). Devon bt Hampshire by 113 runs.
