HEATHCOAT trio Jackson Thompson, Callum French and Jack Menheneott sent North Devon spinning to a 111-run defeat in the top-against-bottom Premier clash.

Pete Randerson and Liam Lewis both scored half-centuries as table-topping Heathcoat made 246 for six in their 50 overs.

"Pete played beautifully for his 67 not out, considering he has a broken finger on his right hand, and Liam (53) was at his hungry best and looked class at the crease,” said skipper Thompson, who won the toss for the first time in five games and opted to have a bat.

Randerson and French (28) took the score to 119 for two at drinks. Lewis, Jack Dart (30) and Thompson (27) kept the board ticking over.

Said Thompson: “It was a little disappointing not to get the full batting points but nevertheless a good score.

“Isherwood (0-40) and Josh King (2-41) bowled their hearts out for North Devon and were really the most challenging of their bowlers.”

North Devon openers Dan Bowser and Jaz Kalsi (26) made little headway against opening bowlers Malcolm Cloete and Jamie Drew. When Thompson turned to spin, wickets fell regularly.

“Jack Menheneott (3-34) used the conditions well and was effective in getting three of their batters.

“Callum French (2-28) too was very tidy with the ball. I came on (4-15) and I guess I did the mopping up job.”

Ishwerwood (22) and Ben Howe (28) were the only batters to join Kalsi in the 20s as North Devon were bowled out for 135 with 15 overs un-bowled.

Paignton’s win over Sandford means they stay second, 16 points behind Heathcoat, who are at home to Sidmouth this Saturday.
