Last weekend in the 1st division, Cornwood faced Plympton at home. Cornwood, who have had several difficult games knew that Plympton would be a challenge and Plympton knew that a win at Cornwood could possible take them to the top of the table over Hathereligh. Plympton won the toss and elected to field. Opening the bowling with maiden overs from Evie Privett and Evie Pitman, immediately put pressure on the opening batters Amy Gibson and Debbie Horner and coupled with some excellent fielding, a run out left Cornwood one wicket down without scoring a run. Evie Pitman continued with the pressure for her four overs of bowling and ended her spell just conceding two runs. At 12 for 2 and two new batters at the crease, Hannah Parsons (15) and Kelly Luscombe(30 off 33 balls) started to build a partnership for Cornwood. Kelly and Hannah had patiently batted to steady the innings, but unfortunately the bowling proved to much and the partnership was broken by a caught and bowled wicket from Emily Martin.

Bowlers Key (3 for 10 off 5) and Hampson (3 for 9 off 3) came into the bowling attack, Key taking a caught and bowled wicket with her first ball. In the final 7 overs Plympton took 5 wickets for 20 runs and Cornwood ended their innings 76 all out.

Taking to the crease, Plympton made short work of the task at hand and with the loss of one wicket, they reached the required runs in 8.5 overs, Imogen Beasley carrying her bat on 41. This good win for Plympton, gave them 17 points and took them one point clear of Hatherleigh to the top of the table. Next weekend, Cornwood take on Hatherleigh, who they beat earlier in the season and then the following weekend Hathereigh travel to Plympton in what could be a top of the table decider.

In the second division, Paignton were at home to Bovey Tracey. Bovey won the toss and elected to bat. Ellie Ingham-Hill (31) and Karen Ball opened the batting, making 37 before the fall of the first wicket. Emily Roberts came in at number 3 and batted excellently, watching four wickets fall around her as she batted to a total of 65 (including 10 boundary 4s), before finally being caught off the bowling of Charlotte Massey. With careful batting and wickets in hand, Bovey made a total of 211 for 7 off their 35 overs, losing 3 wickets to run outs.

Paignton went in to bat knowing that the target was acheivable, but they would need to bat well. Julie Simpson(24)  and Steph Kaczalska (39)  put on an excellent opening partnership of 57, befroe Julie was caught by Shawna Ball of the bowling of Olivia Rockey. All further batters contributed to the final total of Paignton - 34 for Hollie Perkin and 64 not out for Charlotte Massey, built to a really close finish that went right to the last over (with a break to watch the final overs of the World Cup! and with 2 balls to spare, Paignton surpassed the total with a boundary from Charlotte Massey to win the game. For the spectators and players, two close games in one day was enough! This win puts Paignton 5 points clear at the top of the table and both teams will meet Bradnich in the coming weekends.
