BARTON captain Adam Parker hopes momentum generated by beating promotion-chasing Hatherleigh can be carried forward into the game against Budleigh Salterton.

Barton looked down and out after Hatherleigh dismissed them for 111, only for spinners Matt Crampton and Stuart Bowker to skittle the home side for 105.

Barton are now two places and seven points clear of the drop zone, which is the direction Parker wants to keep moving in.

“We need to push on from a great result last week,” said Parker.

“We still haven't performed well in every aspect in one game but are confident this week we can tie it all together.

“The league is so tight if we can string a few wins together we will continue to move up the table.”

Batter Will Grainger and keeper Greg Shelton are missing. Seamer Jon Martin is doubtful due to fetlock problems.

James Doble comes back in to keep wicket for Budleigh and open the batting. Tom Oxland returns to boost the middle order.

“We are looking to get a good result against a good Barton side who are always a difficult team when playing at home,” said Budleigh captain Lloyd Murrin.

Tavistock go into their derby date with Hatherleigh looking to bounce back from a defeat by Budleigh.

The fifth-placed Moorlanders are on the fringe of the promotion race, but beating one of the four sides above them will improve their prospects.

With Dave Manning, Ian Gray and James White all back in the side, Tavvy have more depth to their batting.

Curiously, it is one of the other disciplines that worries Tavistock captain Shaun Daymond.

“We have got to bowl better than last week, and especially at home where you need to take advantage of conditions,” said Daymond.

Being without seamer James McGahey is a complication Daymond could have done without.

Mark Lake, the Hatherleigh captain, is well aware the defeat by Barton has left his side some catching up to do. They are lagging 22 points behind in the promotion race.

“Every game for us is now a must-win one for us,” said Lake.

“Tavistock have been in good form lately and I'm expecting an extremely tough game.”

Batter Gareth Tidball is back for Jasper Presswell in the only team change.

“Jasper drops down to the 2nd XI for some batting practice – a very tough call but with everyone available someone had to miss out,” said Lake.

Table-topping Cornwood won’t be taking anything for granted when they face table-propping Abbotskerswell at Two Mile Oak.

It’s only three rounds since Cornwood ran into Ivybridge, who were bottom of the table at the time, and lost by four wickets after being skittled for 86.

Abbots crashed into the basement when they lost at Ivybridge last time out and won’t lack motivation against the leaders.

“We know Abbots will be desperate for a win so we are going to have to be at our best again,” said Cornwood skipper Matt Skeemer, whose side should be unchanged.

Another skipper wary of a basement side is Bradninch’s Eliot Acton, who takes his team to Bideford, who are two points off the drop spots.

Bradninch chased 284 to win with seven overs to spare last Saturday –Gary Chappell hammering a century – and Acton knows what he wants from the team at Westward Ho!

“Bideford are a stubborn batting team and have a few players who seem able to stick around so we need to make sure we aren't complacent and let them grind out a score,” said Acton.

“Batting wise, the message is carry on from last week and continue to build big partnerships.”
