A Good Win!

Playing at Ivybridge Cricket Club on an extremely windy day, Devon won the toss and decided to bat.

Cornwall, who were a player short, as one of their team headed off to the minor injuries unit, having been hit in the face during their warm up, struggled in the windy conditions to minimise their wides.

Opener, Emma Corney played beautifully for her 60; as did Becca Halliday coming in at three, for her 92.

Devon completed their overs on a very competitive score of 228-5.

Devon took to the field, hoping the strong wind would not have quite the same effect as it did on Cornwall’s bowling of 34 wides in the first innings. As it was Devon bowled very well, with just 13 wides (unfortunately one going for five). Ellen Day claimed the first wicket and Cornwall were 8-1 in just the second over. Katie Harman’s (4-0-15-3) second over claimed another two wickets and Cornwall were struggling on 12-3 in the third over. Though Rebecca Odgers batted quickly for her 33, she also was walking back to the pavilion in the 13th over. The Devon girls bowled very well to pick up the remaining wickets: Becca Halliday (5-1-13-2) and Charlotte Massey (1.4-0-1-2), took the last two wickets in her second over, leaving Cornwall on 78-9(ao) in the 24th over.

Devon won by an impressive 150 runs!
