Lottie led Sandford's recent win at Hardball Festival

Sunday saw Sandford and Paignton meet for their first league match together and it is one that will not be forgotten, certainly not by the Sandford team. Captain of Sandford, Lottie Miles, won the toss and elected to bat.

As Sandford took to the crease, Paignton made an excellent start with the ball, as Katie Harman (2 for 26 off 7) took 2 early wickets and Sandford were 17-2. Lottie Miles came in to bat and with Jemima Vereker built a partnership which was broken by a caught and bowled wicket from Charlottle Massy ( 3 for 30 off 5.4).

Despite taking regular wickets, Poppy Bell (3 for 46 off 7), throughout the innings, Captian Lottie Miles remianed at the crease.

Tactical running kept Lottie on strike and she provided an exceptional batting performance for her team and when Charlotte Maseey finally bowled her wicket, she had scored 138 runs, including 21 fours and 2 sixes, one of which went out of the ground. With the next top score being 18, Sandford's total of 207 was Lottie's making.

Fielding through a big innings can be tough but the resilient Paignton team took the crease positively and were looking to build on an opening partnership, before Lottie Miles took the wicket of the opening batter, Hollie Perkin (18).

Tight bowling from Chloe Dennis (2 for 10 off 4), Jemima Vereker (2 for 13 off 4.3) and Lottie Miles (2 for 11 off 2) kept the wickets falling at regular intervals for Paignton and despite a good 13 from number 8 batter Poppy Bell, Paignton completed their innings in 28.3 overs for 90 runs.

The day really did belong to Lottie Miles though, as aside from her two wickets and three catches, her score of 138 earned her eighth position on the National Batting Honours Board. Very well done Lottie.

Sandford look to contiue with their excellent start to the season with when they travel to Bradnich next month, whilst Paignton travel to Bovey Tracey this weekend coming,  hoping to repeat the good win they had at the beginning of the season.
