Devon met Oxfordshire for the first time at Whimple CC in the first of their championship matches on a cloudy morning.
Oxfordshire won the toss and elected to bowl. Openers Ellie Bishop (103*) and Ruby Davis (27) began their innings with positive batting, taking quick singles as well as boundaries. The girls put on a 73 partnership until Georgia was caught. Jemima Vereker
slowly played her self in for her 31. Unfortunately there was a collapse with three wickets being claimed by Oxfordshire for just 3 runs. Alicia Stebbing (16) coming in at 7 and Katie Donovan (8) at 8 steadied the innings with Ellie.
Not only did Ellie Bishop get her first 50 for Devon; but batted beautifully and intelligently to reach her first 100, finishing on 102 not out.
Devon batted their 40 overs for a total of 216-7.
Devon’s bowling attack started from the start of Oxfordshire’s innings with Shawna Ball taking the first wicket with Oxfordshire being on 12-1.
Wickets were to be claimed in just 22.5 overs and with Oxfordshire fielding only 10, were all out for 69.
Wickets were shared amongst the bowlers, though Alicia Stebbing (3-0-7-2) and Evie Privett (1.5-1-0-3) were outstanding; as was keeper Olivia Diamond who took three catches.
Devon won by 147 runs.
