BEN Green stroked his fifth Premier Division ton to help put Exeter out of sight against Torquay.

With Green making 166 – 20 fours, four sixes – and sizeable chip ins from Dominic Tuohey (46) and Harvey Sargent (56no) the City side reached 294 for three in 50 overs.

Green and Tuohey put on 142 for the first wicket and there was a stand of 126 between Green and Sargent.

Tom Lammonby, who missed out when Exeter batted, then claimed three Torquay wickets for 20 runs, to leave Torquay reeling at 74 for four.

A fifth-wicket stand of 101 between James Degg (92) and Tom Western (50) gave the scoreline an air of respectability and earned Torquay two bonus points.

Tuohey was wheeled into the attack and broke the stand by having Degg caught behind in sight of a maiden Premier Division ton.

Somerset staffer Green (2-27) fired out Western then Neal Osborne, leaving Tuohey to clean up the tail on his way to figures of four for 45 as Torquay were bowled out for 200.

Victory by 94 runs lifted Exeter into fourth place and left Torquay nine points adrift at the foot of the table.

Tom Pedel, the Exeter captain, said Green had a ‘fantastic game’ but it was hardly a one-man show.

“Ben had a fantastic game, but a strong all-round performance from everybody supported him,” said Pedel.

“We put an excellent total on the board and fielded well to defend it.

Credit to Torquay, particularly their young opener Degg, who batted well chasing a big score.”
