TRANSFER activity us warming-up ahead of the new Tolchards Devon Cricket League season, which gets under way on May 4.

Mark Gilmour, the much-travelled all-rounder who started last season with Barton, has joined A Division side Abbotskerswell.

A number of clubs were interested in Gilmour, among them ambitious South Devon CC, but he opted for Abbots, where former Torquay team-mate Nick Watkin has recently been installed as captain.

Neil Maud, a seam bowler who can count Tavistock, South Devon and Alpington among his former clubs, has moved from Whimple to Premier side Sandford.

Sam Agnew has returned from Plymouth to Plympron.

One surprise move is that of batsman Harry Geering from Lewdown to Tavistock.

Geering, a former Lewdown captain, made 467 runs at an average in the high 30s last season. Despite his efforts and run support from Dave Ball (554@39.57), the team were relegated from the C Division West.

The last two years have been tumultuous for Lewdown, who dropped down two divisions voluntarily at the end of 2017 following a player exodus.

Geering was a regular run getter for Lewdown in A Division cricket, which is where Tavistock are playing this summer, and will be a canny acquisition for Tavvy skipper Shaun Daymond.

Daymond and Geering are old friends having played together previously when Geering was at Tavistock in 2006 and 2007.

Cullompton, where Jason Parr is the new captain, have signed bowler Sam Franks from Somerset League side Ashbrittle.
