Rob Shergold, who is on the way to Barton from Paignton

BARTON have completed the signing of bowling all-rounder Rob Shergold from Tolchards Devon Cricket League Premier side Paignton.

Adam Parker, the Barton captain, has been busy during the winter picking up players Shergold joins Andy Pugh, George Northcott, who have switched from Brixham.

George Benton, the Paignton captain, said he understood Shergold’s reasons for dropping down to the A Division and will be leaving the door open for a possible return.

Return ticket - Matt Crampton“He is on his way to Barton but I don't think it will be permanent,” said Benton.

“Rob can't commit to training or the first team squad so wants to play lower-level cricket with less responsibilities.

“He's going to be a big miss to the team and club and has done a lot for everyone.

“I wish him all the best but I do think I will see him sooner rather than later.”

Parker has secured Matt Crampton as the overseas player for a second season.

Crampton scored 777 runs in all competitions for the league, cup and T20 winners – and took 46 wickets as well.

The talented South African is currently playing for Pirates CC in New Zealand.

“I am delighted to have Matt back as is contribution last year on and off the pitch was brilliant,” said Parker.

Gone from Cricketfield Road for the season ahead is Adam Latham, a batter who bowls seam up, who has gone to Abbotskerswell.

Veteran Shaun Jarman – 60 and still going strong when required  - has also departed to Abbotskerswell, where son Ian already plays.
