NICK Gingell has taken over as captain of Premier champions Sidmouth from title-winning skipper Luke Bess.

Bess had three seasons as skipper, during which he won the last Devon KO Cup in the 50-over format in 2016 as well as Premier title in 2016 and 2018.

Freed from the captaincy, Bess is looking to concentrate on his batting and scoring enough runs to become a permanent fixture in the Devon side.

Following the retirement of older brother Josh as a player and county captain, there is a vacancy for a batsman in the Devon team.

Gingell has quickly slipped into his new role, orchestrating the arrival of Matt Parker from Bradninch.

Gingell, a talented sportsman who has represented Sidmouth at soccer, rugby and golf, was Murray’s right-hand man for four seasons and skippered the 2ndXI in 2014.
