CULLOMPTON captain Brendon Parr is aiming to go one better on finals day in the Corinthian Cup.
Cully, Upottery, Barton and Seaton reconvene at North Devon CC tomorrow (Saturday) for the delayed finals day.
Bad weather scuppered hopes of playing finals day on August Bank Holiday Monday and meant using the reserve date for the Ivor Dewdney Pasties-sponsored competition.
Cullompton were beaten by Seaton in last season’s final at Shaldon, but that only whetted appetites to have another go in the T20 format.
Cullompton reached play-off day in the senior competition too – the Servicemaster Clean Devon T20 – and giant-killed Premier side Sandford to get there.
Said Parr: “The lads can't wait as T20 cricket has always been a format we have had lots of success in.
Reaching the Servcemaster T20 finals day bought us lots of confidence going into Saturday’s semi final against Upottery.
“Scoring more than 200 three times already in this format this year, we are not frightened to be chasing down big totals.
“We have a team based around big hitters, it’s all about them going out there expressing themselves, playing their normal game and having fun.”
Cullompton play Upottery in the morning semi-final (10am) for a place in the final. Seaton and Barton meet in the other semi.
Cully have met Barton and Seaton in Devon League B Division action this season so know plenty about them.
Upottery play two divisions below Cullompton on the league ladder, but Parr says they are hardly an unknown quantity.
“I know a little bit about the Upottery lads from past years and Last Man Standing cricket,” said Parr.
“It is a format those guys are familiar with. They also have some dangerous hitter that we would like to see the back of early! Should be a great game.
Barton and Seaton have both been in great touch all year. We wish them all the best and look forward to watching their semi-final.
Cullompton have lost South African all-rounder Kenny Vos, who has returned home, but are otherwise at full strength.
Seaton and Upottery both report issues getting a side together as both have players committed to football at this time of year.
“It would be easier if finals day was at a ground closer to all four clubs,” said Upottery captain Mark Joyce.
Barton have already won the DCL B Division, the Aaron Printers T20 Cup, the Dick Lear Cup and the South Devon League.
There is no official word from the Barton camp on their selections for the day.
Sources inside the dressing room have hinted that slow left-armer Stuart Bowker miss playing Peninsula League football for Bodmin to play in the game.
