BEN Steer and Callum Stanley both hit half-centuries as Bovey Tracey 2nd XI said farewell to the C Division West with a 19-run win over Lewdown.
Bovey are leaving the division in one direction as champions. Lewdown are leaving through the trap door as they slipped into the bottom three on the last day of the season.
Steer (60) and Derek Perry (47) got Bovey up to 167 for three. Stanley (62no) went all the way to the final total of 225 for four.
Lewdown looked like crashing to a heavy defeat at 95 for five, but Ollie Brown (53) and Harry Williams (22) thought otherwise.
Williams’ demise to Steer (3-40) exposed the tail to Jeremy Christophers (3-37) who knocked over the stragglers.
BRIDESTOWE secured second place in the division with a four-wicket over Dartington & Totnes.
After the loss of captain James Howrihane first ball, D&T rebuilt well through Ian Bransdon (26) and Matt Sevior (47).
Once Ryan Dennis (2-22) removed them both, the rest were spun out by Alex Jopling (5-34), who was helped by three stumpings from keeper Mark Fogerty.
D&T managed to get to 145 all out, which was more than they looked like getting at 111-8.
Bridestowe lost a couple of early wickets to Howrihane (2-57) but a fourth-wicket stand of 86 between Gary Sizmur (63) and Phil Hatton (36) ended the game as a contest.
Late wickets for Ben Hartridge (5-3) delayed the inevitable as Bridestowe raced home inside 30 overs.
KINGSBRIDGE didn’t hang about on their way to an eight-wicket win over visiting Ashburton.
Bhanu deSilva spun out five Ashes batters for 11 runs as they collapsed from 79 for three to 100 all out. Lloyd White (22) had the only notable score.
Kingsbridge needed just 14 overs to knock off the runs. James Fletcher (36no) and Ashley Treeby (26no) were the batters who go on with it.
After the game skipper Ashburton skipper Ashley Berry said "Somewhat of a write off today, but I'm just so proud of how we have turned the season around in the second half after a difficult start.
"We're now in a great position to build on going into next year."
ANDY Bees and James Richardson bowled Cornwood 2ndXI to a 154-run win over Shaldon that keeps them in the C Division West for another season.
Cornwood have been bouncing around in the bottom half of the table most of the season and went into the final round needing to beat Shaldon to have a chance of survival.
Cornwood also needed Lewdown to lose against champions Bovey Tracey, an outcome that was always on the cards.
Lewdown lost by 19 runs against Bovey and when the points were totted up Cornwood had gone four points ahead of the Moorlanders to reach safety.
Shahzad Ahmad (78) and Ben Griffiths (73) put on 160 for the fifth wicket to rescue Cornwood from a worrying 34 for four. Luke Richardson (38) chipped in. No one else made more than seven!
Wickets were shared: three for Carl Woolnough and two each for Ross Abraham and Ross Aitchison.
Bees took four for 43 and James Richardson three for 27 as Shaldon were bowled out for 109.
Opener Karl Blackburn made a rapid 30, Mark Jameson had 36 and Tshepo Legodi made 13. Of the other eight batters, six made ducks!
PLYMPTON 2ndXI’s eight-wicket win over bottom side Chagford came way too late to save them from relegation.
Chagford were all out for 110 in the 29thover – skipper Derek Lammonby making a run-a-ball 53 in what is probably his last game for the club.
Pick of the bowlers were Charles O’Higgins (4-27) and Simon Beare (3-12).
Harry Kandampully (80no) saw Plympton home after Lammonby (2-38) knocked over both openers.
