Queens Park - Paignton's home since 1902

MISSION accomplished! Paignton’s 101-run win over relegated Ivybridge was more than enough to clinch the A Division title.

Twelve months after crashing out of the top flight, Paignton are looking forward to Premier cricket again.

The challenge for skipper George Benton is keeping Paignton in the Premier Division for longer than a season.

Paignton were promoted in 2014, relegated the following year, promoted again in 2016 and, again, came straight back down.

Staying up wasn’t too far from Benton’s mind as he assessed the season just finished.

“At the start of the year promotion was the main objective and winning the league was always an objective too,” said Benton, who took over mid-season from Richard Ashworth.

“We will build from this great year and hopefully establish ourselves in the Premier Division next year.

“Everyone who's been apart of the team has been exceptional – it has been a fantastic achievement.”

After Paignton had racked up 261 for four in their 50 overs – Harry Ward (90) and Kevin Renecke (95) sharing a stand of 158 for the second wicket – they were never going to lose.

Charles Kunje made 36 and Harvey Johnson 28 as the Bridge were bowled out for 160.

Richard Ashworth, who usually keeps wicket for Paignton, got a rare chance to bowl and took three wickets for 35 runs.

Defeat consigned Ivybridge to relegation alongside Chudleigh.
