THE latest winner in Devon CCC’s hospitality draw has chosen to defer his day out until next season.

Stephen Green, the chairman of Exeter CC, was the July winner of the monthly draw for a VIP day out at a Devon game with lunch and tea provided.

A day at Devon’s forthcoming match against Dorset at Sidmouth would have been ideal for Stephen as son Ben is playing.

Ben Green may be a full-timer with Somerset, but still plays in all forms of cricket for Devon when his other commitments permit.

There was just one snag: Stephen’s diary was already full!

“Sadly, I am away supporting Exeter School on their John O'Groats to Land’s End cycle ride for the duration of the Devon versus Dorset match,” said Stephen.

A cycle squad of pupils, old boys, parents, staff and friends are already riding the 913-mile route from Land’ End to John O’Groats.

It is a sponsored ride and the target is to raise £50,000 for the Children’s Society and the Janine Di-Vincenzo Foundation. They are due back in the middle of next week. Click here to read more

Two hospitality winners plumped for Devon against Dorset at Sidmouth when their numbers came up. They are Richard Sommers and Brian Hopson.

A VIP day out as Devon’s guest is an incentive aimed at attracting new members to the county club.

Every month during the season the membership numbers of all county members are put into a random number selector, which picks one winner.

The initiative has been a success in its first year and is likely to be repeated.
