Meeting at Taunton Dean, Devon and Somerset U17 girls prepared to face each other for their final meeting of the season.

After wining the toss and electing to bowl first, captain Daisy Meadowcroft set the field ready to take wickets. The first wicket to fall was that of Ursula Olsen-Groome to Sophie Florides caught behind by Cassia Astley-Jones. The consecutive wicket came shortly after, sending Sophie Hamilton back to the club house for 1.  However, these two quick wickets didn’t phased Somerset in the least as Olivia Hamilton came to the crease hitting a quick 42 before being caught by JoJo Baylis from Rose Ball’s precise bowling. At drinks Somerset sat comfortably at 126-3. The quick run rate slowed slightly as Devon became stronger in the field and took the eventual wickets of Filer, Poole, Bond and Parkinson leaving Somerset on a well hit score of 242-7.

Baylis bowling 22-2 and Donovan 37-2.

Eager to turn the tables, Devon sent Daisy Meadowcroft and Sophie Florides to the crease in hopes of chasing Somerset’s total. The unfortunate fall of wicket of Florides, bowled from Filer allowed Olivia Churcher to build a 72-run partnership with Daisy Meadowcroft. Unfortunately, Filer claimed her second wicket of Churcher (25) before Meadowcroft (48) fell to Poole caught behind by Jeanes.

Fortunately, for Devon, Rose Ball (42) and Holly Elsworth (36) struck the ball forcefully in hopes to secure a win against Somerset. In turn Maddie Ross hit 26.

However, falling short by 41 runs, Devon ended on 201-8 as Somerset retained their win over Devon for another game.
