This season's Devon Lions squad

DEVON Lions – the county club’s development team – play their final game of the summer this Sunday when they take a Gloucestershire Academy XI at Heathcoat (11am).

It has not been a great season for the Lions as bad weather denied them games against Somerset and the University of Exeter and they have lost to Warwickshire and Dorset in the 50-over games they have played.

Disappointingly for the team management, there have been no two-day games at all.

Seam bowlers Christian Cabburn and Louis Stephenson from the host club are both in the Lions side.

James AllenSidmouth’s Tom Moore is retained  behind the stumps and there is a chance for Exeter batter Harvey Sargent to show what he can do.

Aaron Richards, the Cornwood opening batsman in prime form for his club, gets a first Lions outing.

James Allen, the captain of D Division side South Devon who is on the radar of at least three Premier clubs, returns having missed the game against Dorset as he was on a family holiday.

Tim Hancock, the former Gloucestershire batsman who runs Academy cricket at the club, is waiting on a late availability issue before finalising his side.

The bulk of the players selected have gone through the county age-groups up to 17. Joe Dryell, Dom Goodman and Ollie Price have played a handful of county 2ndXI games between them and leg-spinner Alex Russell has played Minor Counties cricket for Herefordshire.
