CULLOMPTON became the latest team to fall by the wayside against B Division leaders Filleigh, who defeated them by 66 runs.

Jas Kalsi (54) and Jack Brazier (38) appeared to set the tone for Filleigh with an opening stand of 86, then it all went wrong for them.

Adrian Pullin (3-32) got into the middle order as Filleigh subsided to 129 for four.

Ryan Bowden (16), Connor Nash (20no) and James Marsh (23) all chipped in as the last four pairs added 82 between them to reach 225 for nine.

Cully struggled for runs from the start – losing opener James Blackmore for a duck  to James Campbell (3-22) didn’t help – and when Darren Paul (24) fell to Jon Hickman they were 77 for six.

Pulling (51) and Jacob Dienes (24) gave the scoreline an air of respectability before the end came at 159 in the 35th over.

Cullompton play Babbacombe, the only side below them in the table, this Saturday.

SHOBROOKE Park came up short on the chase at Ipplepen, where they went down by 26 runs.

Pens scored modest runs all the way down the order to reach 218 for nine. Adam Peters made 22 up top, Ashley Harvey had 37 in the middle and Gareth Penrice (21) got a few at the end.

There were two sets of stand out bowling figures for Shobrooke: Andy Codling (4-57) and Dan Robbins (3-49).

There will have been an inquest in the Shobrooke dressing room into the result after they got into a winning position at 163 for three, the faded to 192 all out.

Opener Robbins made 75, James Goodman 26 and Codling 25 while the going was good. Thirty extras helped.

Tom Durman (4-55) started the slide, which Harvey (2-32) and Steve Bowden (2-21) hoofed along lower down. 

Shobrooke, now down to fourth, go to Filleigh on Saturday.

THORVERTON lost by three wickets at Plymstock, but it was hardly a stroll in the park for the winners.

Thors scraped together148 all out in the last of their 45 over, which is more than they looked like getting at 69 for five with Will Denford already out for 33.

Ben Slaverio (40) and Ben Coe (19) held the bottom half of the order together.

Rob Cunningham (2-14) and Tom Mitch (2-18) had the most effective spells for Plymstock.

Teddy Richards (28) and James Nicholls (20) got Plymstock’s early runs, Scott Mansfield (44) kept it going and when he went with 22 needed Mitch (14no) and Mike Blackmore (15) wrapped things up.

Thors’ bowlers Slaverio and Nick Barton made life difficult for Plymstock. Jake Choules (4-20) was the leading wicket taker.

Losing captain Andy Pitt said: “We probably ended up 20 runs short on a tricky pitch. 

“Plymstock’s bowlers kept it tight and made it difficult for us. 

“We let them get off to a decent start in the second innings which won them the game really as they didn't seem too strong in that department. 

“Runs have probably been our biggest problem so far this season and it's something we really need to sort out in the next few weeks if we want to win games.”

Thors are at home to Tavistock this Saturday.

SEATON moved on from their defeat against Tavistock by beating promotion chasers Barton.

Barton were all out for 167 in the 41st over. Seaton knocked off the runs with for wickets in hand and seven balls to spare

Seaton are joint fifth in the table with Plymstock. Barton are still second, but now trail leaders Filleigh by 16 points and can feel Tavistock moving up behind them.

Barton’s key run getters were in the top four where opener Will Grainger (47) batted through to the fall of the fourth wicket at 136. Matt Crampton (20) and Shaun Needham (25) were the supporting acts.

Ben Morgan (4-19) and Joel Seward (2-33) slowed things up once Grainger had gone.

Seaton got to 135 for two in reply with Matt Hewer (45), Seward (25) and Josh Cann (27) contributing.

Their was a brief hiatus between 135 for two and 137 for five, but captain Morgan (26no) ensured no foul ups.

Gary Spencer (2-32) was the only Barton bowler to take more than one wicket.

Having done it once, Morgan wants Seaton to do it again.

“Given the way we played against Barton I am looking for some consistency of that level of performance,” he said.

“It’s good to think we are still being competitive with players out and I am looking forward to improved availability and the knock-on effect of then having to think deeply about who gets left out.”

TAVISTOCK are up to third in the B Division following their hefty seven-wicket win over bottom side Babbacombe.

Babbacombe were bowled out for 125 with nearly 10 of their 45 overs unused.

No one made more than opener Steve Lewis who made 18 of the first 21 runs on the board.

The Barriball brothers Charlie (4-23) and Billy (1-34) caused the early upsets then James McGahey (2-23) picked up a brace lower down.

Tavistock knocked off the runs with 19 overs to spare and were seldom troubled doing it.

Opener Billy Barriball missed out, but a stand of 59 between Ian Gray (57no) and Matt Witcher (28) made a dent in the target.

Dominic Snyman (28no) was Gray’s running mate on the final lap.

Tavistock moved ahead of Shobrooke into third place, where they trail second-placed Barton by nine points.
