CORNWOOD didn’t hang about on their way to an eight-wicket win over visiting Chudleigh.

Elliott Staddon (2-30) did some of the initial damage as Chudleigh wobbled from 51 for one to 57 for four.

Dan Britcliffe (21) led something of a fightback, but his departure sparked a collapse that saw Chudleigh fall apart.

Shahzaz Ahmad took five of the six wickets to fall – the other was a run out – as Chudleigh lost their last six batters for 21 runs on the way to 111 all out.

Matt Tamsett bowled 10 overs and conceded just 10 runs.

Openers Owen Gannon (35) and Aaron Richards (48) gave Cornwood a 70-run start.

By the time Richards was second out at 99 the result was not in doubt.

Winning captain Matt Skeemer praised his bowlers first, saying: “Elliot Staddon and Matt Tamsett bowled well with great control then Shazad was brilliant taking his first five for.

“I was really pleased with how smartly and positively Owen and Aaron batted on the run chase.”

The Corns are joint second in the table with Torquay. Paignton are a point clear at the top.
