GLOUCESTERSHIRE have named a strong 2nd XI for Sunday’s Twenty20 double-headers against Devon at Bovey Tracey (11.30am).

Miles Hammond, an off-spinning all-rounder, is a former England U19 player.

Batters Will Tavaré and Ian Cockbain – a T20 specialist - have more than a hundred First Class games between them.

Brandon Allen, another batsman, was on the MCC young cricketers programme last year and has been through the ECB Elite player programme. Milo Ayres, like Allen, was on the ECB elite player programme last year.

Matt Brewer – a keeper batsman – is a rising star of the Bunbury Festival, a shop window for future First Class players.

Opening bowler Tom Sturgess won’t need too much introduction to Devon’s batters as he played for Heathcoaat in the Premier Division last summer while a student at Wellington School.

Devon supporters with long memories will recognise the surnames of Greg Willows and Ian Cockbain, both sons of cricketing dads.

Willows, who has played for Western Province U17s, is the son of old adversary Alan Willows, the former Dorset batsman and coach.

Ian Cockbain senior was the long-time captain of Cheshire, with whom Devon had some right royal battles in the 1990s during the late Peter Roebuck’s time as captain.
