NEW Plymstock skipper Charles Martin wants to put the fun back in cricket during the season ahead.

Plymstock were relegated from the A Division last summer, dropping straight back down a year after winning promotion.

Said Martin: “Last year was disappointing overall with our batting being the weak point, letting us down nearly every week.

“Bowling and fielding from our young side was generally very good, and the opposition rarely got away from us when they were batting.

“We got ourselves into winning positions in a lot of the games and a mid-table finish in the A Division would have been up for grabs if we had managed to bat as we know we all can.”

Martin hopes to have most of last season’s 1st XI squad around in 2018, although West Indian Bronte Bess won’t be back for a third season.

The strength of the side was the bowling and Martin hopes the attack will keep pushing forward.

Imbuing confidence in the batters is a must for a better season ahead.

“A couple of good wins will quickly do that for us and help everyone enjoy their Saturdays again,” said Martin.

Nets are already under way at Devonport High School for Boys every Thursday 8-10pm.
