DEVON under-11s completed their season with a comprehensive 47-run win over Dorset at Whimple.
Devon were without a couple of their most reliable batters, so the strong and settled batting line needed a tweak.
Julian Hayter and Morgan Couch started well and at the first drinks break had taken the score to 35 without loss in 13 overs.
With the score on 40 Hayter (17) was bowled around his legs.
Couch and Fin Hill kept the scoreboard ticking over to take the score to 72. With the score on 72
Three wickets went in a hurry - Couch bowled for 35, Hill lbw for 15 and Harry Mount run out in a total of 72-4.
Devon laboured until the last five overs when tail-enders Rohan Cross (13) and Surya Suresh (13) got the total up 122-9. It didn’t look enough.
The Dorset innings never got going in the face a determined bowling unit, who stifled the run rate.
Dorset were dismissed by 75 in the 37th over. George Tapley, Jonathan Triner and Ben Kay all bagged two wickets,
Devon ended the season with 10 wins, two draws.
Team manager Martin Brice said: "This return reflected the level of performance this group of young cricketers have shown all season."
