The triumphant Ivybridge team and captain Evie Privett with the trophy

IVYBRIDGE U11A retained the Palladium Building Supplies West Devon Youth League Cup final trophy in a thrilling encounter with a strong Plympton team at the Filham Park ground.

The two strongest teams in the league campaign met in the 20 over pairs cricket final to decide the overall champions a game in which Ivybridge ran out winners by 30 runs.

Electing to bat Ivybridge made a steady start with captain Evie Privett and Joseph Davies scoring steadily at the top of the order.

The Plympton bowling lacked real penetration as Maddie Turner and Jake Dunn continued to amass runs, Ivybridge eventually losing their first wicket in the 15th over of the game.

Joshua Willcocks (2-12) took a couple of late wickets for Plympton before Finn Torley smashed some lusty blows to give Ivybridge a solid score of 253-4.

The home side's confidence was high at the break though this was quickly tempered as Devon's Suriya Suresh (17) set about the run chase elegantly stroking a drive through the covers for four from Bridge's most consistent bowler James Deacon.

Suresh was ably supported by Matthew Horrocks (6) with the first pair ending their innings with the score on 234, well ahead of the required run rate. Plympton's hopes were high.

The game turned in the seventh over when Bridge's youngest team member and West Devon representative, seven year old Jake Dunn, claimed the wicket of Freddie Bridgett as he played onto his stumps.

The momentum of the game had swung back to the Bridge as a run out and wicket for Owen Cocks soon followed.

Maddie Turner then came on and bowled the spell of the game taking three wickets for seven runs as Plympton's run chase faltered, ultimately ending on 223-9.

Captain Evie Privett accepted the trophy for a second successive season from League representative Andy Alford.

Suriya Suresh for his batting and James Deacon for his all round game were named players of the match.
