The late Stuart Munday handing over the Devon KO Cup to Sidmouth's Will Murray. Who will replace him?

THE search is still going on to find a new chairman for the Tolchards Devon League.

This post became vacant following the death of Stuart Munday in May this year.

Phil Bees, the league vice-chairman, is currently acting as league chairman, but will be unable to continue in this role after the annual meeting in November.

The league executive wants to see a new chairman in place by November 24 – the day of the annual meeting.

Interest so far has been muted, possibly because the role seems a challenging one from the outside looking in.

Ed Leverton, the league secretary, said what may not have been realised is the scope of the role has been changed to reflect the change in circumstances caused by Stuart’s death.

Munday saw fund raising and publicity part of the chairman’s role. The new chairman won’t be burdened by that.

Leverton hopes when word gets around member clubs of the changes, more applications will come in.

“The league has taken the opportunity to review the role of chairman and the commercial and fund-raising work will now form the brief of a separate officer’s post,” said Leverton.

Leverton has contacted every club chairman in the league and urged them look around their clubs for a potential candidate.

“The league cannot function for its member clubs without a chairman,” said Leverton

Talking directly to club chairman, Leverton said: “Through your networks you will almost certainly know someone who may be interested in this role.

“They may not necessarily be retired from full time employment.

The league strongly feel that the right skills, rather than being able to make a large time investment, are relevant to this role.”

The role of the league chairman will be:

: : Chairing general meetings of the league

: : To chair the annual club chairman’s meetings held in July and August

: : Chair meetings of the operational management committee

: : Representing the league at meetings with the ECB (no more than twice a year.  One meeting is held locally, the other in London)

: : To represent the league on the Devon Cricket Board Ltd and any other partner organisations.

: : Provide positive leadership of the Devon Cricket League, so it becomes one of the most respected cricket leagues in the country.

: : Acting on behalf of the operational management committee in the management of the league’s paid staff.

: : Being the ‘face’ of the league to member clubs
