NORTH Devon failed to get past the semi-final stage for the second year running in the Servicemaster T20 finals day at Budleigh Salterton.

North Devon ran into Torquay in last season’s semi-final at Sidmouth and lost that encounter by eight wickets.

It wasn’t any closer this time as Torquay won by 39 runs to set up a meeting with Exmouth in the final.

Opener Cody Gertze (38) was the Torquay anchorman, helping them to 101 for four.

Nick Watkin (34) and Dan Wightman picked up the pace in the latter overs in a stand that added 42 for the sixth wicket.

Wightman was still there on 31 not out in Torquay’s 20-over total of 172 for six.

North Devon attacked seamer Gertze but found Matt Petherbridge (0-22) and Mitch Pugh (2-19) hard to get away.

Wightman bowled four overs for figures of two for 13 and that really put North Devon behind the clock.

Tom Popham (34) and Callum Hotham (20) made a dent in the deficit, but not a sizeable one.

North Devon were well adrift on 133 for seven when time was up.

Torquay went on to defeat Exmouth by four wickets in the tea-time final.
