BARTON skipper Adam Parker hopes the six-wicket win over Thorverton is the springboard for a rise up the table.

There was only five points between the sides before the game. Thorverton were below the safety line and Barton above it.

Barton now have a 16-point cushion, which they will want to preserve as much of as possible when then face third-placed Bideford this  Saturday

“A much-needed win from a good team effort on the day,” said Parker.

“We have to build on it now and string together a few wins in a row to move back up the table.”

Thorverton totalled 169 all out in the 40th of their 45 overs – former South Devon favourite David Baldock (58) top scoring for the second week running.

Opener George Greed made 12, as did skipper Andy Pitt going in at number nine.

Baldock went in at 58 for three and shared partnerships worth 115 before he was ninth out.

South African Calum Moses  (3-36) shaded the bowling effort for Barton from Jon Martin (2-11), Tom Whittle (2-20) and Jamie Peters (2-10).

Shaun Needham made 39 at the top of the order as Barton went off in pursuit, aided and abetted by Seamus McKenna (19) and Moses (23).

Parker went in at 93 for three when McKenna fell to Jake Choules and batted through for an unbeaten 47 to win the game.

Pitt said Thorverton didn’t bat well – and the bowling wasn’t great either!

“Our top order didn't really apply themselves, only Greed and Baldock looked comfortable out there,” said Pitt.

“We didn't bat our overs, which cost us nearly 30 runs.

“I bowled terribly up top but spinners Nick Barton and Jake Choules bowled really well and probably deserved a few more wickets each.

“Barton came out and played shots, as you would expect, and we were unlucky with a few chances dropping in the gaps rather than going to hand.

“James Grady, our replacement overseas, arrives on Thursday so will be in for the Filleigh game.”

Grady replaces Seppe Barletta, who has had to returm home to Australia for family reasons.
