TAVISTOCK defeated Abbotskeswell by 26 runs to move up to second in the B Division table.

Charlie Barriball top scored with 73 in Tavistock’s total of 230 for eight.

Tavvy were slow up to 64 for four as Elliott Adams (3-52) and Connor Adams (3-44) put the brake on.

Barriball went in aftert brother Billy had been and gone for 28 and took Tavvy to 174 for seven.

Getting Charlie Barriball out didn’t do much to help Abbots as Sean Cleave whacked 41 off 37 balls in a brisk stand of 47 with James McGahey.

Abbots were all out for 204 in reply – Cleave taking three for 29 including dangerman Tom Keily for 50.

The longer Keily stayed in the better Abbots’ chances of winning were. He went for 50 at 107 for four.

Runs from Jimmy Fulner (27) and Richard Acton – 54 off 48 balls – kept Abbots up the asking rate.

Wickets fell regularly and when Billy Barriball (3-24) had Acton caught behind, the game was up.

Dylan Aucamp (2-28) knocked over Noah Tobias to clinch it.

Shaun Daymond, the Tavistock captain, believes his side is the best in the division and said the win over Abbots proved his point.

“We showed a lot of guts and depth in both departments,” said Daymond.

“Sean Cleave coming in at nine and hitting 41 shows the depth of our batting.

“Abbots were ahead of the run rate a lot of the time but someone  would take a wicket when we needed one.

“There are some good sides in our division this season -  Abbots, Ipplepen, who don’t carry anyone – and some who are a bit one dimensional.

“I think we are better than all of them.”

Abbots have a derby date with ipplepen this Saturday and the message from skipper Charlie Hill is things have to improve.

“There is lots to work on going into this week,” said Hill.

“We were chasing 40 more runs then we should have against Tavistock.

“We bowled and fielded poorly, didn't set plans to batsmen and dropped catches.”
