PLYMPTON came a proper cropper at Lewdown, were they were bowled out for 90 and lost by six wickets.

Harry Kandampully (21) was the only batsman in the first eight to make more than six as Tallan Burns (3-29) and former Albion rugby star Billy Searle (3-13) wreacked havoc.

Skipper Craig Donohue went in at 46 for six and was last man out for 20 in the 35th over.

Dino Visser (2-17) picked up a couple of cheap wickets either side of Searle and Burns.

Plympton needed early wickets to pose any sort of challenge and didn’t get them.

David Ball (20) and Kian Burns (13) made a steady start, which was taken on by Visser then Searle.

Visser (28) and Tom Pengelly (10) were the not-out batters when Lewdown romped him in the 22nd over.

Donohue said he followed is instincts after looking at the pitch, but they didn’t pay off.

“When we saw the wicket it had been used a couple of times already so my gut feeling was to bat and get best use of it,” said Donohue.

“Having a couple of spinners in our ranks with seamers like Alex Carr and myself, I thought if we could get a score on the board it would be hard to chase.

“After losing early wickets, that wasn't to be the case.

“A mixture of poor shot selection and good bowling saw us up against it early on.

“Alex and Harry put on a partnership but then we lost wickets in clusters and myself and Tom put on a few to give us something to bowl at.

“In the field we did ok, although 90 was never enough as Lewdown knew one partnership would all but see it done.

“We won't dwell on the result, the team know we are better than that it's just a case of applying ourselves better, and being game smart.”

Defeat drops Plympton down to sixth in the table as Lewdown went past them.
