Devon’s U12 boys side claimed their third victory in as many games with a comfortable victory over Dorset at the picturesque Sherborne School. Asked to bowl first having lost the toss, On a hot day Devon’s seamer’s ran in hard and bowled with good aggression with Matt Jeacock picking up a wicket courtesy of a great slip catch from skipper Harry Passenger. Another good catch diving forward at square leg by Cameron Ford gave Jack Whittaker was followed by a run out and when James Tyler got in the act trapping the batsman lbw Dorset were in trouble at 44-4. That was soon 5 as Jacob Kopparambil claimed his victim , caught by Alec Holifield. Together Harry Passenger they wheeled away for 14 overs sharing 3 wickets for just 30 runs, Kopparambil going for a miserly 12 from his 8 overs whilst adding a further victim caught at mid off by Lawrence Walker. Skipper Passenger had the luxury of being able use all of his bowlers, with Ed Butler, Teddy Haffenden and Alec Holifield all given a run out. It was however the returning Matt Jeacock who returned for a second spell to claim a further 3 wickets and finish with 4-19.

 

A solid and calm start to the reply came as openers Jake Pascoe and Cameron Ford manipulated the bowling well to take Devon to 28-0 after 10. Ford was adjudged lbw playing around a fullish ball for 17 and Lawrence Walker came to the crease to join Pascoe. The pair increased the scoring rate in the next 10 overs, taking the score to 71. At 79-0 Pascoe was beaten by a turning ball from the leg spinner to fall for a patient 31. Alec Holifield strode out and does what he does best, scoring at close to a run a ball as Devon eased home by 8 wickets, Walker finishing on 27no with Holifield unbeaten on 11.
