DEVON Under-15s defeated Somerset at Taunton Vale by two runs in a nail-biting affair.

Devon, who won the toss and batted, were all out for 234.

Open Abraham Kopparambil got Devon off to a sound start with a patient 42. Sam Read top scored with 48.

Devon were 125 for two at the 35-over stage as Somerset struggled to make an impression.

The strength of the Devon batting showed from then on in as Louis Morison (27), Freddie Ford (22) and Ollie Hannam (26) all contributed lower down the order.

Pick of the home bowlers was Ben Clarke (3-30) with Max Toohey and Jack Kearns both taking two wickets apiece.

Somerset progressed well in reply and looked to be in a strong position at 143 for two off 33 overs. 

Somerset wavered after the second drinks break, quickly losing Will Smeed (69) and Scott Reed (50).

James White (3-21), Cole Harford (2-54) and skipper Jack Moore (2-49) did most of the damage with the ball for Devon.

With more than 30 runs required off the last three overs and with just one wicket in hand, it looked as if the visitors had the game in the bag. 

But a 17-run over the over before last, Somerset suddenly wanted just three to win off the final three balls.

Spinner Max Hancock came to the rescue and had Toohy stumped by keeper Morrson as Devon won in dramatic fashion.
