Matt Golding - fit for cup quarter-final<br>credit: www.ppauk.com

ALL-rounder Matt Golding looks like being fit for Devon’s Unicorns Cup quarter-final against Lincolnshire at Grantham today.

Golding limped out of the three-day game against Dorset at Sherborne School last Sunday when his left foot slipped running in to bowl and he sustained a sprained ankle.

Devon’s management feared their utility man – he bats and can bowl seamers of leg-spin depending on the circumstances – wouldn’t be fit to play today.

Golding came through Bovey Tracey’s league game against Bradninch yesterday without any serious problems – and bowled 10 overs of spin.

With Golding fit Devon will be able to pick from the 12-man squad depending on conditions, rather than having to pick who is fit.

Seamer Josh King is recalled to the 12 as an extra bowling option. Devon don’t know what the Grantham track will be like and are packing an additional seamer just in case.

‘We have two spinners and an extra seamer and can decide which combination works best when we see the pitch and the local weather,’ said team chief Keith Donohue.

Devon welcome back keeper-batter Matt Thompson who missed the last two games due to work commitments.
