DEVON team chief Keith Donohue knows nothing about Unicorns Trophy quarter-final opponents Lincolnshire – and that suits him just fine.

Devon play Lincolnshire at Grantham on Sunday in the last eight with the reward for the winners a trip to either Cheshire or Hertfordshire in the semi-finals.

As Devon play their cricket in the Minor Counties Western Division, and Lincolnshire are in the East, the two sides seldom meet other than in the later stages of cups or three-day finals.

Josh King - another bowling option for skipper Josh BessDonohue was Devon’s opening bowler when the two sides met at Lord’s in the 1994 final of the same competition – and took three wickets in an 18-run win.

The last meeting between the sides was in 2003 when Lincolnshire defeated Devon by eight wickets at Cleethorpes in the three-day Minor Counties Championship final between the East and West winners.

Up-to-date intelligence is thin on the ground, not that Donohue is worried.

Devon won three out of four in the group stages to qualify for the last eight and Donohue is happy to concentrate on what’s gone right, not the opposition.

“I have not seen a Lincolnshire team sheet – and if I did I doubt I would recognise anyone on it,” said Donohue.

“All the counties in that part of the world are close to Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Notts, so you see young pros coming though or the odd old pro going the other way.

“All we need to know is they are a decent side – they wouldn’t be where they are otherwise - and we need to pull out our A game to beat them.

“We had a good win over Cornwall in our last game, probably not against the strongest Cornwall side we have played recently, and were a bit too good for Oxfordshire, who are having a bit of tough time at the moment.

“We will need to play better this time as Lincolnshire will probably be a bit stronger. Just doing enough won’t be sufficient.”

Devon welcome back keeper-batter Matt Thompson who missed the last two games due to work commitments.

“The top five will stay the same with Thompson going in at six,” said Donohue.

Batter Jack Dart is not available due to exam revision so Somerset Academy scholar Tom Lammonby comes in. He bring a left-arm bowling option if need.

All-rounder Matt Golding injured an ankle in the three-day draw with Dorset earlier this week. He hopes to be fit to play but a late decision will be made.

Seamer Josh King is recalled to the 12 as an extra bowling option. Devon don’t know what the Grantham track will be like and are packing an additional seamer just in case.
