Keith Donohue - keen for Devon to stay focussed against Cornwall<br>credit: http://www.ppauk.com/photo/1030056/

NOTHING less than a win will do for Devon on Sunday when they face Cornwall at Werrington in their last Unicorns Trophy group game.

Devon cruised to a five-wicket win over Oxfordshire at Sidmouth last Sunday to stay in the race for a qualifying place.

Berkshire top group on six points from three games with Devon and Dorset level on four behind them.

Two qualify for the last eight and with one round to go it is possible Berkshire, Devon and Dorset could finish on three wins each.

While Devon are playing Cornwall, who are out of it, Berkshire and Dorset play each other. A Berkshire win would make life easier for Devon, but only if they beat Cornwall.

In the event of a three-way tie, the qualification places will go to the two teams with the best net run rate.

Berkshire (1.5) are out in front of Devon (0.35) and Dorset (0.038), but that will all change when the last round of results go in.

Keith Donohue, Devon’s director of cricket, said whatever the iffs, buts or maybes, one thing is certain: they have to win.

“We give ourselves the best chance of qualifying if we win,” anything else and we are relying on other people slipping up,” said Donohue.

‘There is nothing we can do about Berkshire or Dorset; just let them get on with it.

“We have to concentrate on winning our game and put all our energies into that.”

Devon have named the same 12 they had for the win over Oxfordshire. Pace bowler Dan Goodey missed out in favour of spinner Jamie Stephens, whose three-for-28 haul will ensure he stays in.

Cornwall’s Andrew Libby, who missed the trip to Wokingham last weekend due to illness, is added. The eleven will be selected on the day.

Five Werrington players are in the squad on their home ground.
