DEVON County Cricket Club launched their 2017 souvenir brochure with a charity quiz night in the Sidmouth CC pavilion.

The charity quiz looks like becoming an annual event having been introduced last year to mark the publication if the booklet.

The 40-page brochure, entirely supported by sponsorship and advertising, is an all-you-need-to-know guide to the county cricket club and its aims and activities. It will be available at all home games played by Devon this season.

Money raised from the brochure, which was given to all quizzers, helps support the club, which plays all over the country in the Minor Counties Championship.

County club officials are conscious of the support they receive from the community, especially in and around Sidmouth where many of their matches are played.

The club’s way of saying ‘thanks’ has been to stage the charity quiz night on behalf of Sidmouth Hospiscare, the Sid Valley Admiral Nurse Appeal and the David Shepherd Cricket Trust, all of whom fielded teams for the quiz.

David Thorneley, the brochure publisher, said quiz night was a huge success.

“We had a bumper attendance of 15 teams and around 80 people,” said Mr Thorneley.

“It was good to see many of the brochure sponsors fielding teams as well - including solicitors Gilbert Stephens hoping to repeat the success of last year.

“Devon team Josh Bess led a players’ select team, if not aspiring for a top-three finish certainly keen to finish in front of the Sidmouth CC team, which was led by chairman Fionn Wardrop.

Enchanted House Beds of Okehampton won in a bunch finish with Sidmouth estate agents ‘Your Move, Edwards’ runners-up for the second year running.”

After Mr Bess presented the winners with their trophy, Devon CCC chief executive Neil Gamble thanked all the entrants for their support.

Quiz-night raffle proceeds of £240 will be divided between the three good causes.
