Richard Foan (left) back for another stint as Sandford captain

NEW Sandford captain Richard Foan wants to bring the glory days back following his  permanent return to Creedy Park.

Foan, who is 34 in March, was a member of the Sandford team that won trophy after trophy in the 2000s.

Sandford won the A Division in 2000 and three Premier titles between 2001-2004. They followed up with three Devon KO Cup win in 2005, 2006 and 2008, Foan skippering them in one of the finals.Flashback - Sandford's Devon KO Cup winning team of 2005

Those are the days Foan wants to see again at Sandford.

“We are working very hard to put a side together to get back into the Premier  Division - that is the aim for the club,” said Foan.

“When I was captain last time I had six Minor County cricketers in the team and it was a very good time for the club.

“I am sure those players would agree that playing at Sandford helped them to play for Devon.

“Things are a bit different now, but we have some very good young players and with the right signings we can get back to where the club belongs.

Foan led the side in 2007 and 2008, taking over from Richard Coupe then handing on to Adrian Small. He had a brief stint with Bradninch in 2009, but was back at Sandford the following year.

Sandford haven’t seen much of Foan for the past four years as he has been living and working in the gold mines of Western Australia.

He retuned home midway through last summer for an extended holiday and was quickly back in the groove.

Foan hit 366 league runs in nine outings and averaged more than 40 with the bat. Fifteen wickets at 23.80 each were an added bonus.

Foan’s job in Kalgoorlie ends in mid-April, as does the cricket season in Western Australia, and he will be heading home immediately to lead Sandford in their A Division opener against Cornwood on May 7.

They say you should never go back, but Foan had no hesitation returning to Sandford and taking over the captaincy from Ryan Glass.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision to make to go back to Sandford the club gave me so much when I was younger,” said Foan.

“The opportunity to play for them, especially as a batsman helped me no end to get into the Devon side.

“I have played at a few clubs, but Sandford know how to look after you and it is no surprise the club is now hosting county games.”

“I am looking forward to the challenge and would welcome any cricketers especially in the Crediton area to get in touch with me for the upcoming season.”

HEATHCOAT are poised to announce a new signing in the next few days.

Skipper Peter Randerson is keeping is cards close to his chest until the paperwork is completed.

All he would say is the player concerned was with a Premier Division club last season and played in the Devon team.
